I tried the Content page layout with different background photos, and came up with these:
This one is more dramatic but maybe a bit dark and miserabilist? Shows off the section markers nicely, but need to watch the text boxes overlaying dark patches of the image. House rules I think are move the photo down, but not distort it, as readers who’ve been there might object. Increased density of the the ‘Contents’ title too.
This version is a warmer and more dramatic photo, but it’s too dark at the top for the text – this time you could lighten the image at the top. Also too light and busy on the righthand side, behind the coloured boxes.
Take 3 fits better, it’s sunny, but maybe a bit lacking in impact. Possibly would look ok glossy.
This time experimenting with changing the body text colour to reflect the background light and shade. Bit tacky? Also remember those yellow boxes have images in them.
As above, adding shadow for emphasis. Really tacky, but if did the same for the images that overlay the yellow boxes, would balance. But out of style.
